Returning Your Leased Vehicle to Lincoln of Wayne: What to Expect

For many drivers, the end of a lease can seem like uncharted territory. If this is your first time leasing a vehicle or you just want to know more about your options, we here at Lincoln of Wayne strive to make the lease return process as effortless as possible.

Your End of Lease Options

When you're ready to return your leased vehicle, you will have three options to consider:

The Joy of New

Do you love the look and feel of a luxurious Lincoln but want to try out a different model? Replace your leased vehicle with a new Lincoln lease or purchase. By doing this, you can even take advantage of special lease offers available to Lincoln of Wayne shoppers.

Shopping for another Lincoln is a fantastic experience. Browse our new inventory online to find a Lincoln SUV that suits your needs, such as a new Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln Corsair, or Lincoln Aviator. You can also find plenty of new Lincoln sedans at Lincoln of Wayne, such as the new Lincoln MKZ, Lincoln Nautilus, and Lincoln Continental.

Love My Car

Falling in love doesn't happen every day. If you've fallen in love with your leased Lincoln vehicle, you don't have to say goodbye just yet. At Lincoln of Wayne, you can extend your lease so that you can continue enjoying your Lincoln driving experience. At our finance center, we can help you extend your lease, either by keeping the same lease agreement or finding a new lease offer that works for you. When you lease a Lincoln through Lincoln of Wayne, we make sure to make the process as simple as possible.

Ending Your Lease

Not interested in leasing anymore? If you want to end your lease, you can either purchase the vehicle you're leasing or return the vehicle and be on your way.

When purchasing your lease, you can explore buyout options with our financing department. If you want to return your leased vehicle, you will need to prepare your vehicle for a thorough inspection (see below for more details). Be sure to remove all personal belongings and have the vehicle cleaned both inside and out. Your tag will also be removed during the lease return process.

Once you've coordinated a ride back to your home, you can expect to receive your final bill in the mail. This final bill will detail the money that you owe for your lease. In addition to that, a Return Survey and Odometer Disclosure Statement (required by federal law) will be generated at Lincoln of Wayne. You can download a copy of the Return Survey and fill it out before your return your leased vehicle.

Remember that you will be responsible for the following aspects of your leased vehicle:

  • Any outstanding payments
  • Excess wear and use
  • Any officials fees and state taxes
  • Excess mileage as outlined in your lease agreement
  • All keys, remotes, the spare tire, etc.

Be aware that this is not a complete list of all wear and use guidelines. By taking a look at your lease agreement, you can get a more complete picture of what constitutes chargeable wear and use. For example, be sure to take into account the mileage you've accrued and check your lease agreement to see how many miles your lease allows. If you drive over that amount, you will be charged an additional fee.

The Inspection Process

When the AIM inspector gets started, you can expect the process to take about 30 minutes. You are welcome to observe the AIM inspection process.

The inspection will begin by confirming the vehicle's VIN and by starting the engine to check the vehicle's mileage and the working order of any and all accessories. The inspector will then review the interior to check for any damages, confirm the presence of the spare tire and jack (if equipped), check the condition of the engine parts and oil, analyze the exterior for excess wear and use, and check the condition and tread depth of the tires.

In addition to all of this, the AIM inspector will take about 20 required pictures, including any additional pictures to record any chargeable wear and use. After the inspection, the AIM inspector will review the inspection with you and answer any questions you may have about the results. You will also receive a copy of the AIM inspection report, a Wear and Use Notice, and an Options to Make Repairs Notice.
